Polished Concrete

by Southeast Floors Pty Ltd

Polished concrete is fast becoming the surface of choice in many commercial and residential projects in Queensland and is used in both the refurbishment and new developments markets, providing your project with a low maintenance, hardwearing surface.

Polished concrete is produced by grinding the concrete surface with diamonds to reveal or exposed the aggregate within the slab.

Further grinding with progressively finer diamonds produces a polished finish and generally a polyurethane coating is applied to the surface to seal and protect the concrete.

At Southeast Floors we can help you choose from an infinite selection of oxides and aggregates to colour your concrete or direct you toward a standard range that will eliminate that guess work.

You are only limited by your imagination.

HiPERFLOOR

HiPERFLOOR creates an environment where the concrete is the wearing surface – not a coating.

Concrete is already one of the most durable surfaces known to man, but with the HiPERFLOOR polishing process we are substantially increasing the surface abrasion resistance and wearing properties.

The end result is a cost effective, extremely low maintenance flooring alternative.

Technical Information

A silicate is applied to the concrete surface to react with the Calcium Hydroxide (also known as free lime) that is formed during the production of concrete (when the cement reacts with water).

The product formed during this reaction is Calcium Silicate – a crystalline / glassy structure, which forms in the pores of the concrete near the surface and is the main contributor for increasing the surface hardness of the concrete. The increased surface hardness enhances the concrete’s abrasion resistance.

HiPERFLOOR produces the following benefits;

  • A non-dusting surface is produced
  • A surface significantly resistant to tyre marking is produced
  • The surface tension of the concrete is increased, therefore making the surface less prone to absorption (via capillary action)
  • The aesthetic properties of the surface are significantly improved

A penetrating sealer can be applied to the surface at the end of the process to make the concrete significantly more resistant to fats, oils, water and acids.

HONED CONCRETE

External Surfaces

Honed concrete is very similar to polished concrete but has been designed for external surfaces.

We cut the concrete to reveal the level of exposure you have selected being either full depth, partial or salt and pepper.

We then grind the concrete to approximately 80 grit depending on the environment and apply a sealer to protect your investment.

The sealers used would be either a penetrating or surface sealer with the addition of a grip additive.

Honed concrete can be used as an alternative to conventional paving i.e. tiles, pavers, stamped concrete, stencilled concrete & exposed aggregate and is great for outdoor entertaining areas, pool surrounds, paths, driveways and roadways.
